Day one of the first annual Bell Border Jam Festival at Runway Park kicked the weekend off with bang despite a slow beginning.

Warming the crowd up throughout the day were local talents 100 Gran, The Wild Turkeys and the Inner City Surfers.

At 6 p.m. the first headliner of the evening, Foghat, hit the stage drawing everyone front and centre.

With a set list that included Driving Wheel, Fool For the City and Slow Ride, the audience was charged up and ready to rock the night away.

Stepping in at the last minute to fill the vacant time slot left by The Marshall Tucker Band's cancellation was none other than Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins.

At 73 years old, the rock and roll pioneer dazzled the approximately 800 people in attendance with his vast repertoire, dapper tuxedo and unquestionable charm.

And as reported by SooToday.com's News Editor, David Helwig, The Hawk did indeed engage in more than a bit of flirtation during his performance.

His band The Hawks, which includes Hawkins' children Robin and Leah, and brothers Sam and Ryan Weber, were equally as charming and talented.

Finishing the night off were funk reggae legends, War.

Kicking of with Cisco Kid, original band member Lonnie Jordan grinned from ear to ear as he led the crowd in a sing-a-long.

Possibly the funkiest experience to hit the area in decades, War kept the party going and the booties shakin' well past 11 p.m.

Members of the Hawks were even spotted back stage movin' and groovin', completely enthralled with the music.

Day two of the Bell Border Jam Festival promises to follow suit with music from Wild T and the Spirit, Sass Jordan and Kim Mitchell.

The Chris Belsito Band just wrapped up their set and The Dirty River Band are currently on stage.

They will soon be followed by local legends, The Zak's Allstars.

Day passes are available at the gate for $50.

SooToday.com will post a festival update later today.
