Arts Council hosts Christmas Market in the Station Mall

The Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District is featuring some of the Sault's most renowned artists at this year's Christmas Market 2006 art sale and exhibition.

Featuring the inspiring and beautiful works of Doug Hook, Mireille Gagnon Moes, Hugh Morrow, Doris Pavelich, Doris Anne Ray, Andrew Tiltins and Zoey Wood Salomon this show and sale offers something for everyone.

Each week in the month of December artists and artisans will sell their original works.

This exhibition and sale will be held in the Art Space at the Station Mall, December 4 to 31, during mall hours.

This is the third year the Art Council's Christmas Market will be held in the Station Mall.

This event is a one-of-a kind annual fundraiser for local artists and the Art Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District.

It is an opportunity for the public to meet and support local artists of great distinction while finding original gifts for family and friends.

Bringing the community together at Christmas is important in helping to foster community growth and Christmas cheer in our area.

For artists interested in participating there are still tables available.

The cost of a table is $25 a week.

Tables can be shared with another artist, and can be booked for multiple weeks in the month of December.

To book a table contact the Arts Council at 945-9756 or [email protected]

The Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District is one of the longest-running not-for-profit arts councils in all of Ontario.

They provide information, promotions and opportunities for local artist and artist groups, theater groups, musicians, businesses and patrons of the arts.

The Christmas Market is one of their most successful community-building fundraisers.

Other events hosted by the Arts Council include their Valentines Day Silent Art Auction, Art In the Park, and Halloween House.

This article is illustrated by a detail from Nativity, at Night, attributed to the little-known 15th-century Geertgen tot Sint Jans. It's considered one of the first full-scale nocturnal scenes in the history of art.
