NEWS RELEASE

SUSTAIN ALGOMA EXPO COMMITTEE

**************************
Sustain Algoma Expo 2016 Art Exhibition

Calling all artists of the Central Algoma region!

Apply today to be part of the first-ever Sustain Algoma Expo art exhibition, taking place Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Johnson Township Community Centre (Desbarats) as part of the 2016 Sustain Algoma Expo.

Presented by the Sustain Algoma Expo, the St. Marys River Remedial Action Plan and Thinking Rock Community Arts, this exhibition offers the chance to the region’s artists, working in all artistic mediums at all stages of their careers, to show off the works they’ve created about the local environment.

This year’s theme is the St. Marys River.

The St. Marys River is one of 43 Areas of Concern in the Great Lakes basin due to pollution and other problems.

Work has been underway to address these environmental issues and to restore the river to a healthy condition.

We want to see what the river means to you!

Artists are invited to submit works for consideration to the exhibition committee, composed of regional artists and stakeholders, by July 1, 2016.

Artists whose works are selected for exhibition will be contacted regarding delivery of their works to the exhibition venue – the Johnson Township Community Centre – prior to the Expo.

Visitors to the exhibition can cast ballots for Peoples’ Choice Awards, selecting their favourite works; three prize winners will be announced at the day’s closing.

Applications are now being accepted!

While this exhibition is not a sale, it offers artistic exposure during a day-long festival celebrating art, environment and community here in Algoma.

All works must be in ready-to-present condition and professional presentation is a must (framing, hanging hardware, etc. are to be provided by the artists).

The exhibition coordinator will handle the works’ installation, and exhibition monitors will be present throughout the day.

Completed application forms and images, as well as any questions about the exhibition, can be emailed to Lisa Derickx and Miranda Bouchard, exhibition coordinators, at [email protected] by July 1st, 2016.
