All about the Startlefish CD release party

Startlefish's second release, or as Craig West puts it, their second first release, The Debtor's Heart , was finished about six months ago.
Startlefish's second release, or as Craig West puts it, their second first release, The Debtor's Heart, was finished about six months ago.

Recorded completely at West's home studio, the album was ready for duplication and release complete with cover art work and credits.

But he felt it lacked something.

West took the recording to Miguel Gauthier of Stereo Soul Studios to mix.

This partnership led to many bits being re-recored and the slaughter of anything remotely adult contemporary on the album.

The results are a solid, edgy and professional recording that is more representative of Startlefish's live performance.

The Debtor's Heart is full of driving beats, funky rhythms and sweeping melodies that move you from the urge to shake your booty to making you feel a bit sinister and eerie.

Taking elements of U2, Pink Floyd, the Police and REM, Craig West, Shayne Wigglesworth and Ed Young have created a soulful, unique and powerful record with a professional sound not normally heard in these parts.

In the words of West: "Out of the clash of personalities, styles and opinions, I feel a very good mix and very good performances were solicited. I am very proud of this album, and proud to be able to work with everyone who was involved."

You are invited to join the boys of Startlefish as they celebrate the official release of The Debtor's Heart at Loplops Gallery-Lounge on Monday December 18, 2006 commencing at 7 p.m.

It is also Craig West's birthday, so bring cake.

Tickets are $10 and are available at Loplops, CD Plus in the Cambrian Mall, the Rad Zone in the Wellington Square Mall or at the door the night of the event.

With your ticket, you will receive $10 off the purchase of The Debtor's Heart.

I snuck into a rehearsal this afternoon and took a few snapshots of the boys as they polished and refined their set list, goofed on the Monkees, King Crimson and the Doors and played with rubber chickens.

Don't ask.

They also tell me they may have a surprise or two up their sleeves for the CD release.
