Algoma Repertory Theatre is looking to cast a comedic character actress to round out its upcoming dinner theatre production of The 39 Steps.
“Based on the Hitchcock movie of the same name, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy,” the theatre describes in a news release.
"When he takes her home, she is murdered.
“Soon, a mysterious organization called The 39 Steps is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt.”
Timothy Murphy, Marc Beaudette and AJ Brisson will return together as three of the four actors.
The trio – who worked together in 2023 in The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged)[Revised] [Again] – will tackle over 150 characters in this production.
The theatre is now looking for one actress who can play three characters ranging in age from their 20s to 50s, each a possible love interest to the leading man, Richard Hannay.
- "Annabella Schmidt" — A secret agent with a thick accent who brings Hannay into a conspiracy.
- "Pamela" — The Hitchcock leading lady; principled, brilliant, and resourceful.
- "Margaret" — A Scottish woman stuck in a loveless marriage who helps Hannay out of a tight spot
The part calls for physical comedy and light intimacy.
Auditions will take place Sunday at noon at the Century 21 Office Building, 121 Brock St. Enter through the back door and head downstairs.
The 39 Steps runs May 28 to 31 at Quattro Hotel and Conference Centre.
