Algoma University, in partnership with the Department of Music, are pleased to announce that renowned Jazz performer Adam Smale will be hosting a masterclass on February 12 at 2:45 p.m. at 75 Huron Street.

From Sault Ste. Marie, Adam Smale is a renowned seven-string jazz guitarist.

Smale has performed around the globe, including in South America, Asia, and North America, and has been a regular presence at the prestigious Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival and Montreal Jazz Festival.

In 1996, Smale co-founded the ensemble Camarillo; he performed with Camarillo until 2007 when he left to pursue his Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance from Western Michigan University.

Upon completion of his degree, Smale moved to New York City, where he signed with Ropeadope Records and released Out of the Blue.

His first solo debut CD, Fun City, was released in Canada in 2000.

Smale has also authored and published New Approach to Scales for Guitarists: A Practical Modern Direction.

This masterclass is open to the public and is free of charge.
