SooToday received the following Letter to the Editor from Councillor Sandra Hollingsworth, in regards to the upcoming election:
Sault Ste. Marie has always been a city built on hard work, resilience, and homegrown businesses. From our small, family-owned enterprises to our major employers, the success of local businesses directly translates into a thriving community for all of us.
But today, as economic uncertainty looms—driven by global market pressures, tariffs, and the risk of a slowdown—our city needs strong, experienced leadership at the provincial level to secure our economic future.
That’s why I am endorsing Chris Scott as our Progressive Conservative candidate in the upcoming provincial election.
Chris has a proven track record of working with local businesses and securing major investments that have already shaped Sault Ste. Marie’s economic landscape. His leadership played a role in securing job growth at OLG, advocating for critical infrastructure projects like the Black Road expansion, and ensuring that major economic drivers—such as the Algoma Steel Electric Arc Furnace project—continue to move forward.
These initiatives are not just political talking points; they represent tangible, lasting benefits for our community, creating jobs and keeping our economy strong.
Moreover, Chris has a direct line to Premier Doug Ford and a strong working relationship with the provincial government. This connection is crucial. It means that when Sault Ste. Marie businesses and workers need support, they will have an advocate who can deliver results—not just promises.
Our city cannot afford to lose businesses, jobs, or opportunities. We need a representative who understands that healthy, thriving local businesses lead to a prosperous community—one where families can build a future, young people can find meaningful employment, and entrepreneurs can grow and invest with confidence.
I respect the democratic process, and I know this election brings forward a range of choices. However, for those who prioritize economic growth, job security, and the continued development of our local industries, Chris Scott is the clear choice.
I encourage all voters to consider what’s at stake in this election. As a municipal councillor, I have always worked to put Sault Ste. Marie first, and I believe Chris will do the same at Queen’s Park.
