SooToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Katherine Lidstone, who shared some experiences during the heavy snowfall in Sault Ste. Marie.
I thought about posting a “Letter to the Editor“ and then I didn’t do it … but now have changed my mind! In light of what Mother Nature has dumped on our city ... I just had to share.
In the past when our city has faced the aftermath of a “snow storm” the event “brought out the best in people.” This storm was no different!
Last week, on three different occasions, I felt the love from people from our city.
First, I was in the Canadian Tire parking lot trying to remove built up snow on my roof. A gentleman appeared out of nowhere and took my snow brush and told me to get in the car and get warm while he removed all the snow on top of my car! I was shocked and very appreciative of his actions.
Second, my husband and I were at the pizza store in Churchhill Plaza ordering takeout. There was a particular item I wanted but needed a special coupon which I didn’t have … a man appeared from behind the counter, I assume he was the owner, and said wait just a minute and I will find you that coupon for you to use, and did so immediately. Again, I was shocked and very appreciative.
Third, I was in the driveway trying to shovel a path to my shed (we are seniors) when my young neighbour appeared with his snowbrush and shovel and said "I saw you struggling out here from my window and I’m here to help!"
He cleaned all the snow off my car and then shovelled it from the driveway, cleared the path to my side entrance, dugout my recycling bins and cleaned a spot for them. I am so happy to share these experiences and remind everyone that there are many GOOD PEOPLE in our city who are willing to help each other!
Thank you for your kindness.
