SooToday received the following letter on the relationship between Canada and the United States:
I hear a panic in the streets…
The world is ending…
Trump is threatening a 25% tariff on our manufacturing products...
Oh no, what are we going to do?
Well, think about it… The American dollar is worth about $1.40 in Canada.
Spread the word. Vacations in Canada come with a 40% discount.
Canadian Goods come with a 40% discount. Even beer is discounted.
You want to buy a Canadian Steel Coil for your American manufacturing plant? There might be a 25% tariff. Well, we already have a 40% discount. We are still 15% ahead. Canadians do not pay the tariff unless we buy goods in the USA that were made with our materials.
I know… Steel in North America is sold in American dollars. If you spend them in Canada, you still get the 40% extra.
A little smile and a friendly greeting go a long way to winning and keeping friends. Booing at a hockey game makes us look childish. Do we really hate the Americans now because Trump might bring in tariffs that the American consumers have to pay?
We have been friends for over a hundred years. Why should this change now?
I can understand both sides have grievances and the Americans probably have more because our government has been promising to contribute a fair share of our obligations to Defence, Border Security, War on Drugs, Low cost Housing, Jobs, etc.
Our government has been lying to our Citizens, Allies and anyone else that will listen for decades. Perhaps we need to change our VOTE.
