SooToday received the following Letter to the Editor from reader Marcie Tombari, in regards to Doug Ford and the upcoming Provincial Election:

As a retired teacher and former local President of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) and also a former Third Vice President of the Provincial Executive of OECTA, I have spent my career advocating for Ontario’s teachers, students, workers, and families.

Over the years, I have witnessed our community face challenges ranging from economic uncertainty to global crises firsthand. However, I’ve also seen what strong leadership can do to protect jobs, grow our economy, and support the people of Sault Ste. Marie.

Premier Doug Ford’s leadership during the pandemic was commendable. It wasn’t only his strong voice and steady hand guiding Ontario through an unprecedented crisis, but he also ensured that we emerged stronger. While other leaders stumbled, Ford took decisive action to protect businesses, support workers, and keep our economy moving.

Now, with Trump’s tariffs threatening Canada, Ontario, and Sault Ste. Marie jobs, we find ourselves at another crossroads that demands strong and experienced leadership.

Doug Ford has proven time and time again that he will stand up for us. He knows what’s at stake and understands that we must protect our industries, our workers, and our economy from reckless U.S. trade policies. Ford has made it clear that Ontario won’t back down.

He came to visit us in Sault Ste. Marie at Algoma Steel because he recognizes how critical our steel industry is and how devastating these tariffs could be for our community. When it comes to fighting for jobs, Ford doesn’t just talk, he takes action.

The reality in this election is very clear, Doug Ford will win by a landslide. It won’t even be close. Ontario voters recognize his strength, his leadership, and his ability to get things done. They know that no one else has the experience or the determination to fight for our workers, our economy, and our future.

For Sault Ste. Marie, that means we need to keep our seat at the table. Over the past seven years, we’ve seen massive investments in our community in infrastructure, job creation and economic growth, and all because we had a voice in government.

The only way to continue building on that momentum is by ensuring we remain part of a government that delivers real results. We must ensure we keep our seat at the table to protect our workers, defend our jobs, and keep building a stronger future for Sault Ste. Marie.

Sincerely,

Marcie Tombari,
Proud Canadian, Proud Ontarian & Proud Saultite
