It’s officially blueberry season, and the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site wants you to satisfy your cravings with their Blueberry Binge from Aug. 12-22 – 10 days of blueberry themed goodness.

Five downtown businesses – City Meat Market, Elliot’s Ice Cream, Big Lake Cabin, Sault Ste. Marie Museum, and The Old Stone House – will be participating and offering their own special blueberry themed menus.

Elliot’s Ice Cream will have homemade blueberry and blueberry cheesecake ice cream and sorbet, Big Lake Cabin will have a menu full of blueberry items, City Meat Market will be selling fresh blueberries, and the Sault Ste. Marie Museum will be selling blueberry tea boxes (tea for four people, jam, scones, cookies, and muffins) for $30. The Old Stone House will be offering a blueberry pancake and sausage breakfast on Aug. 14 and 15, and a blueberry social from Aug. 20-22.

“People will need to call and reserve a spot for the pancake breakfast and the social so we can make sure we have seating outside on the front lawn,” said Kathy Fischer, curator at the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site. “For the social, we’re doing a combination of Elliot’s Ice Cream with our homemade blueberry sauce, fresh blueberries, and our blueberry dessert, along with beverages.”

Cost for the blueberry social will be $12, with the blueberry pancake breakfast being $10 for adults and $8 for children.

“We’re very excited for this event. We hope people will come downtown, shop local, and experience our fresh northern Ontario blueberries that are in season right now,” Fischer said.

There will be ballots at each location of the Blueberry Binge for a chance to win a blueberry prize basket. The winner will be drawn on Aug. 22.
