Folks have been jumping in the St. Marys River for the Bon Soo Winter Carnival' Polar Bear Swim almost every year since 1969 and tend to regard having participated in as a frosty badge of courage they can wear proudly.
While it's true that other communities host similar festivities, none do it quite the way we Saultites do.
None of them have the St. Marys River.
Of course, there was that one year when the event was almost moved to another location, but thankfully at the last minute organizers decided to stick with tradition. Here's our video coverage from that year's Polar Bear Swim.
