Most people know the character of Jason from the Friday the 13th movie franchise.

Jason Voorhees first appeared in the 1980 film Friday the 13th. He was the young son of camp cook-turned-killer Mrs. Voorhees.

In the original film, Jason was portrayed by actor Ari Lehman.

Outside of acting, Lehman performs in a punk rock/heavy metal band First Jason that was scheduled to perform at the Canadian Motor Hotel later this month with support from local horror-themed band Frightlight.

Event organizer and Frightlight singer, J.D. Pearce confirmed that the event would most likely has to be cancelled due to ongoing safety measures around the pandemic.

“It’s disappointing, but the border will not likely be open by that time,” says Pearce.

“Tickets and cash are still at the retail spots. Refunds will be offered at the place of purchase.”

Pearce had pre-purchased a number of iconic “Jason” hockey masks for the event with the expectation Lehman was going to sign them.

“Know anyone who wants 40 Jason masks?” laughs Pearce, who tells us that he actually has a plan for them.

“I am working on getting some local artists to create one-of-a kind designs on the masks, and do some kind of charity auction to sell them as Halloween costumes for kids.”

Further details on the auctioning of the masks will be announced in the coming weeks.

“It is disappointing that the First Jason event has to be cancelled, but I do have some exciting news about a show I am bringing to the Sault next summer,” says Pearce.

“Stay tuned for details on that.”

Despite the First Jason concert and after party event being cancelled due to border closures, the organizers of NerdCom recently announced the 3rd annual event is still moving forward with some changes to ensure safety for everyone.
