A local filmmaker has received the highest possible praise for his new slasher movie: a thumbs up from legendary horror writer Stephen King.
In A Violent Nature, written and directed by the Sault’s Chris Nash, has enjoyed rave reviews since debuting at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
The Globe and Mail called his movie “the most thrilling, terrifying, gross and often quite funny reworking of the slasher genre in ages,” while Rolling Stone says it’s a “sick, unsettling, and once-in-a-generation slasher flick.”
But perhaps the biggest compliment of all came from the “King of Horror” himself, who shared his appreciation for the film with his 7.1 million followers on X.
“If you need a slasher movie, this one will do the job,” King wrote on Monday. “It’s leisurely, almost languorous, but when the blood flows, it flows in buckets. The killer in his mask looks like the world's most terrifying Minion.”

Filmed mostly in the Searchmont and Goulais River areas, the movie tells the story of a group of teens who unwittingly resurrect a rotting corpse, setting off a bloody rampage.
