War Memorial Hospital has lost one of its own to complications of COVID-19, says its Facebook page.

“Sarah Weber from our Registration Department lost her battle yesterday [Dec. 23],” wrote David B. Jahn, president and CEO of Chippewa County War Memorial Hospital.

Weber was a 25-year employee of the hospital and Jahn described her as someone who was always worried about the virus.

He said she would have been first in line for the vaccine but it came too late for her.

“Sarah will be fondly remembered by all who came in contact with her,” he said. “I hope in honour of Sarah’s memory we all do what we can do to protect ourselves and the ones that we love.”

As of Dec. 22, the latest update on their website, the Chippewa County Health Department reports 12 people have died and 11 are hospitalized with COVID-19. A total of 1,257 people have tested positive and 733 have recovered, says the site.
