If you were holding out for the possibility of a shortened ski season at Searchmont, we've got bad news.
Searchmont Resort announced this afternoon that it won't be opening at all this season because of the ongoing pandemic.
Premier Doug Ford announced at 1 p.m. that while the province will gradually emerge from a provincewide shutdown, the majority of health districts, including Algoma, aren't scheduled to do so until Feb. 16.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce that with the extension of the lock down, it will not be feasible for Searchmont Resort to operate for this season," said a Facebook post from the resort today.
Searchmont said it will continue with planned infrastructure projects for next season.
The ski hill closed early in March, 2020 as the province was plunged into a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it announced in the fall that it wouldn't be making snow for the 2020-21 season and planned to open only if sufficient natural snow fell.
