Ontario is expanding COVID-19 testing to pharmacies, but according to the province no pharmacies will be offering testing in northern Ontario when the expansion rolls out on Friday.
On Wednesday, Premier Doug Ford announced that up to 60 pharmacies will begin offering testing by appointment only. The majority of the pharmacies listed on the Ontario Government website that are scheduled to offer testing Sept. 25 are based in the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa, with the exception of Huntsville.
The province says more pharmacies will offer testing in the coming weeks. No specific timeline has been provided as of yet.
On Wednesday, Rexall and McKesson Canada Inc. announced that pharmacies under their banners – Guardian, IDA, the Medicine Shoppe and Remedy's Rx – will participate in COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic individuals by appointment only.
Shoppers Drug Mart is also offering COVID-19 testing in Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga, Ottawa and Huntsville as part of the province’s first phase of expanding testing to pharmacies.
