Precautions planned as YMCA prepares to reopen

The facility will reopen on July 22 with safety measures in place

After a closure of four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sault Ste. Marie YMCA will be opening on July 22.

With the reopening, the facility will have safety measures in place.

Among the measures are: 

  • Reduced hours of operation (Monday to Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a closure from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for deep cleaning; Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on Sunday)
  • Masks are required inside the building other than when actively engaging in an athletic or fitness activity including water-based activities; consuming food or drink; for any emergency or medical purpose
  • Reduced building access
  • Physical distancing measures to maintain two metres between participants
  • Increased sanitization and disinfection and additional hand-sanitizing stations
  • Barriers at membership desks
  • Health screenings upon entry
  • Directional arrows to control foot traffic flow
  • Reduced class sizes

While members won't be expected to book time slots to use the facility, only current members and those looking to purchase memberships will be allowed to used the facilities and the capacity will be monitored.

Members looking to use the pool have to register for fitness classes and call ahead to pre-book a swim lane.
