If you are planning on taking an Ontario Northland bus anytime soon, you should be prepared to wear some kind of face-covering or mask.
In an e-mail to customers today, Ontario Northland detailed new rules and regulations which will come into effect on July 24 in response to COVID-19.
These include wearing a face-covering or non-medical mask when boarding and disembarking a bus, and when walking through the aisle.
The transit agency encourages riders to continue wearing masks while seated.
Ontario Northland says the masking policy will be enacted and enforced in 'good faith' and passengers will not be refused transportation for not wearing a mask.
These rules do not apply to children under the age of two and people with breathing difficulties.
To help stop the spread of COVID-19, extra measures have been put in place including increased cleaning, application of an antimicrobial spray, limited seating capacity on buses and passenger health screenings prior to boarding.
Out of the Sault, busses are currently running east to Sudbury, North Bay, Ottawa, and north to Thunder Bay.
Back in April, Ontario Northland reduced the frequency of trips out of a number of communities, including the Sault, due to lower passenger demand.
