Public Health Ontario has confirmed 548 new COVID-19 cases in the province today, and seven new COVID-related deaths.
The latest fatalities have included one person between 60 and 79 and six people over the age of 80. Two of the people who have died were residents at long-term care facilities.
Included in today's new cases are 14 long-term care residents and nine health care workers.
There are currently 50 long-term care homes in outbreak with 124 active cases in residents and 158 active cases in staff. There have been eight staff and 1,873 resident deaths attributed to the coronavirus reported since January.
Of the 548 cases reported today, 253 were individuals between 20 and 39 years old and another 139 were individuals aged 40 to 59 years old.
Based on a breakdown of the new cases today, 201 were reported by Toronto Public Health, 90 by Peel, and 62 by Ottawa. Five health units updated their records by removing one case, meaning there were 553 new cases today, but five previously-reported cases were removed.
The province has also confirmed 74 new school-related cases, including 41 students, 10 staff, and 23 others unidentified. There have been 470 school-related cases reported in the last two weeks and 611 total to-date spread across 347 schools. There are two schools closed.
Since January the province has confirmed 55,362 cases of COVID-19 through laboratory testing. Public Health Ontario has reported 46,906 of those cases have recovered, and 2,987 have ended in death.
There are now 5,469 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID in the province, including 192 people who have been hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 41 COVID patients in intensive care units, and of those, 26 patients are on ventilators.
The province reported 42,031 tests have been processed in 24 hours, and there are another 55,483 tests awaiting results. The province has completed and processed more than 4.1 million COVID tests since January.
The breakdown for Northern Ontario health units is:
- Algoma Public Health: 34 cases, rate of 29.7 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 35 cases. There are three known active cases.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 38 cases, rate of 29.3 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 40 cases. There are no known active cases.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 84, rate of 100.7 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 85 cases. There are three known active cases.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 108 cases, rate of 54.3 per 100,000 population. There are three known active cases.
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 20 cases, rate of 61.2 per 100,000. The health unit has reported 17 cases. There are no known active cases.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 65 cases, rate of 74.1 per 100,000. There are 15 known active cases.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 107 cases, rate of 71.4 per 100,000. There are no known active cases.
The Ontario rate of infection is 372.4.
