The Chippewa County Health Department (CCHD) says that the  total number of positive COVID-19 tests in the county has more than tripled in the last month.

In a news release issued today, CCHD reports that on Oct. 10, the case count for Chippewa County was 95. That number spiked to 404 yesterday.

The health department identified 24 new confirmed cases and 81 new probable cases on Tuesday.

“With the significant increase in cases, it has become more difficult to rapidly contact everyone who has tested positive or who is considered a close contact of a positive case,” said Karen Senkus, health officer for CCHD, in today's release.

Last week, the health department said it was overwhelmed by an ‘extreme outbreak’ of positive COVID-19 tests after reporting more than 30 new confirmed cases in just a few days.

It also identified three Sault Michigan bars as potential exposure sites following Halloween weekend festivities.

Last Wednesday, Algoma Public Health (APH) issued a travel advisory for those who regularly cross the border for school or work purposes.
