APH reporting six new COVID cases in Algoma

Algoma Public Health is reporting six new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region.

Of the new cases, four are in the Sault Ste. Marie area, one is from central and east Algoma, and one is from the Elliot Lake area.

The new cases bring the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region since the start of the pandemic to 175.

Case number 170, tested on Feb. 1, falls under the unknown exposure category, meaning the person did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

Case number 171, tested on Jan. 31, also is under the unknown exposure category.

Cases 172 and 173 were both tested on Feb. 1 and are in the unknown exposure category.

Case number 174, tested on Feb. 1, is under the close contact exposure category, meaning the individual had close contact with a known confirmed case.

Case number 175, tested on Feb. 2, also is under the close contact exposure category.

All six individuals are currently self-isolating.

The new cases bring the total number of active cases in the Algoma region to 27.
