Algoma Public Health is reporting seven new COVID-19 cases in the region today.

The new cases bring the total number of COVID cases in the region since the beginning of the pandemic to 162.

Of the new cases, five are from the Sault Ste. Marie area while two are from central and east Algoma.

All seven individuals were tested on Jan. 25 and are currently self-isolating.

The exposure category for all seven is unknown, meaning they did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

There are currently 15 active cases in the Algoma region.

Earlier today, APH declared an outbreak at F.J. Davey Home in Sault Ste. Marie after confirming COVID in six staff members.

"Testing of F.J. Davey residents is in the process of being completed," a release from APH issued Friday afternoon said. "Available lab results have been negative. As the remainder of results become available, F.J. Davey will continue to provide updates to residents, staff, and family members."
