APH reporting eight new COVID cases

There are now 51 active cases in the Algoma region

Algoma Public Health is reporting eight new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region.

Among the cases are six in the Sault area and two in Central and East Algoma.

The new cases bring the total number of cases in the region to 118 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Of the cases, seven fall under the exposure category of close contact, meaning they were infected through close contact with a known confirmed case.

The other case is in the unknown category, meaning the person did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

All eight people are currently self-isolating.

All eight people were tested in the past four days with one person being tested on Jan. 5, one on Jan. 6, four on Jan. 7 and two on Jan. 8.

The new cases bring the total number of active cases in the region to 51.
