Algoma Public Health (APH) has confirmed the region's 31st case of COVID-19 and has declared an outbreak at the F.J. Davey Home. This is the second reported case at the long-term care facility in less than a week.

According to APH, the infected individual is self-isolating after being tested on Sept. 16. This case remains active and falls under the 'unknown' exposure category.

A statement released today by the F.J. Davey home indicates that this most recent positive COVID-19 test resulted from staff surveillance testing the week of Sept. 15 and 16.

"While we know this is alarming news to receive, we want you to know this additional precaution is in the best interest of everyone’s safety," the statement reads.

"We have good news to share in that all the swab results from all other staff members were returned negative and, at this time, none of our residents are COVID-19 positive or showing any symptoms."
