The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario has dropped since yesterday with 116 lab-confirmed cases reported today.
Nearly 50 per cent of today's reported cases (56 cases) are people aged 20 to 39 years old, and just two of the new cases are people over the age of 80.
Peel Public Health reported the most cases today with 35 new cases reported followed by 23 reported by Toronto Public Health.
Public Health Ontario has reported 929 new cases in the last seven days (July 4-10), which is down from the 1,219 new cases reported between June 27 and July 3.
The province has also reported seven deaths related to the coronavirus today, including three people between the ages of 60 and 79, and four people over 80 years old.
Ontario has reported 2,710 deaths (7.4 per cent of all cases) related to the coronavirus, including 1,724 long-term care residents and seven health care workers employed at long-term care homes in the province.
There were 178 new recoveries reported in today's update, bringing the total number of resolved cases to 32,155, which is 88.2 per cent of all Ontario COVID-19 cases.
The province has completed more than 1.6 million coronavirus tests, with 27,484 processed since yesterday's report. Those tests have confirmed a total of 36,454 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario.
There are now 1,589 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, according to today's epidemiological report.
The incidence rate of infection for the province is 245.3 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in the population.
There are nine known active cases of the virus in Northern Ontario.
Today's provincial report includes data from Jan. 15 to July 9 and includes the rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population. Data included on resolved cases and last known confirmed is from each health unit's respective website. The breakdown for Northern Ontario health units is:
• Algoma Public Health - 24 cases, rate of 21 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 25 cases, one of which is active.
• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 35 cases, rate of 27 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 37 cases, and 34 resolved cases and there has been one death. There are two known active cases
• Porcupine Health Unit - 67, rate of 80.3 per 100,000 population. Of the confirmed cases, 59 are resolved and eight people have died. There are no known active cases. The last positive test was June 21.
• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 67 cases, rate of 33.7 per 100,000 population. All of the cases are resolved, and two people have died.
• Timiskaming Health Unit - 18 cases, rate of 55.1 per 100,000. The last positive tests were done April 28. All of the cases are resolved.
• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 93 cases, rate of 62 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 92 cases. There are 89 resolved cases and one person has died. There are two known active cases, including one in hospital.
• Northwestern Health Unit - 42 cases, rate of 47.9 per 100,000 population. There are 38 resolved cases, and four known active cases.
The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 245.3.
