As a doctor, I have given out lots of Band-Aids. For kids with a bruise or a scrape, they help the young ones get over a fall and dry up some tears, but for the most part, they just cover up a wound so no one can see it.
The recent announcement of some GST relief on household basics and items for kids is just that. A temporary distraction that sounds great from a podium, makes for a positive headline, but doesn’t solve a problem for anyone in Sudbury or Canada.
Under this Liberal government, the price of everything has gone up. And they have no one to blame but themselves.
There’s no Band-Aid for a carbon tax that ripples through every step of the supply chain, making the food, goods and services Canadians need being taxed exponentially. A simple trip to the meat department at your grocery store shows how obvious this is.
There’s no Band-Aid for a government led by people who simply are out of touch with how expensive it is to raise a family in Canada. Even now, it’s not Disney+ that people are sacrificing – it’s nutritious food, it’s winter clothes for kids and the other family essentials that the Liberals in Ottawa take for granted.
Although all of us will welcome a bit of relief, these cheques will be financed by more borrowed money.
This government has no money. Every new program they announce means more money borrowed to pay for it and that means more debt and more interest payments and more burden for the next generation.
If you want to introduce a $5-billion program, then you should be announcing a plan to finance it with new growth.
What we need in Canada is a government that works for every Canadian.
We need a prime minister who can relate to paying bills and having a mortgage.
We don’t need Band-Aid solutions; we need an election and a change at the top.
Pierre Poilievre will bring permanent solutions to our economic problems, reign in the government waste and tame the out-of-control cost of living we’re all facing.
It’s time to pull off the band-aid and elect a Conservative government.
Sudbury deserves better and we need to let Canadians decide soon about who needs to run this country.
Dr. Ian Symington is the candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada in Sudbury.
