Volunteer opportunity conditions:

Location : in-person. The majority of the work is performed in client residences which have been assessed by CRC to ensure volunteer safety.
Regions/or cities : Barrie, South Simcoe, Midland, Colingwood, North Simcoe Muskoka, Sault Ste Marie & Wawa and Timmins & Cochrane.
Minimum age : 18 years and older.
Minimum volunteer hours/period : The hours for this position are flexible and dependent on client need and volunteer availability.
Specific requirements : Local travel is required. This volunteer position involves working alone.

The Community Health & Wellness Team is looking for volunteers to be part of their mission. Reporting to the Community Health & Wellness Coordinator, volunteers will provide direct regular contact with older adults who feel isolated from their community in order to provide them with companionship and a connection with their community. This is an opportunity to help individuals feel connected with their communities, assist in reducing the effects of loneliness and strengthen their resilience toward wellness and independence.


As a volunteer in this role, you will:

Provide regular visits to assigned older adult clients, offering companionship, conversation & engagement in meaningful activities.
Perform regular outbound phone calls to assigned older adult clients.
Provide client centered support including referrals to other services.
Maintain timely and accurate records.
Report any health or safety concerns to the Supervisor.
Provide monthly activity reports to Supervisor.

A Commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and the core competencies of team excellence, service excellence, accountability and results focused.
Ability to listen and empathize with clients concerning personal and/or health-related issues.
A general knowledge of local community resources and events.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, attuned to supporting with active listening and the ability to explain and confirm understanding, express empathy.
Customer Service Skills dedicated to supporting those affected by loneliness and/or isolation, remain focussed and respond decisively.
A clear understanding of privacy and confidentiality.
The ability to work as a team, sharing information, helping team members, respectful of diversity, approachable, building relationships.
Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision.
The ability to deliver services in English, with French or another second language being an asset.

A satisfactory Enhanced Police Information Check or equivalent is mandatory for all personnel volunteering or working with the CRC.
