Job purpose

In this role, the Intermediate Accountant will work closely with the CEO/CFO to drive the organization’s agenda through the management of day-to-day financial operations. Responsibilities also include maintenance of accounting records; accurate processing of financial transactions; oversight of biweekly payroll; and monthly review and reconciliations of financial related items. The Intermediate Accountant oversees the work performed by the Junior Accountant.

Duties and responsibilities

Department Leadership
• Lead, plan, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for performing a variety of accounting and financial office support duties.
• Train and manage staff in the finance and administration area.
• Verify the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.

Monthly reporting and reconciliations
• Reconcile corporate credit cards, and employee reimbursement accounts.
• Monthly government reconciliations, reporting and remittances – HST, WSIB, etc.
• Monthly RRSP, Union Dues and other required remittances.
• Oversee monthly billing out of TrackTik to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Monthly review of invoices for completeness and accuracy
• Prepare monthly accruals and prepaid drawdowns for reporting
• Oversight and review of payroll alongside the CFO by performing spot checks, reviewing exceptions, overall totals, and other payment items to ensure they are accurate and follow Company policies and procedures.
• Record monthly vehicle loan and lease payments, manage debt schedules
• Prepare monthly revenue reconciliations

Administration
• Review purchases and sales entered through auto entry and publish to our records.
• Record upcoming contract hours scheduled for operations, and review at end of month to verify vacant hours/shifts
• Implement and review processes and controls.
• Deposit cheques
• Participate in weekly fleet meetings to understand the required departmental and project allocations of vehicle leases, fuel, and maintenance costs.
• Review new and existing Tracktik contracts for accuracy
• Review payroll employee data for accuracy and verify if updates in systems are required.
• Maintain records of customer contract rates
• Review and approval of purchase requisitions and POs.
• Perform regular Sage backups and data consistency verifications.
• Guide continuous improvement processes.
• Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
• Other duties as defined by the CEO/CFO

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
or a combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of finance and accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of Sage accounting software.
• Experience in Payroll processing software. Experience in Payworks and asset.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Working conditions: Work will be in an office environment 40 hours per week and may periodically require travel off site.

Physical requirements: Requires ability to work at an office desk in a normal environment.
