Wesdome Gold Mines has had over 30 years of continuous gold mining operations in Canada. The Company is 100% Canadian focused with a pipeline of projects in various stages of development. The Company’s strategy is to build Canada’s next intermediate gold producer, producing 200,000+ ounces from two mines in Ontario and Quebec. The Eagle River Complex in Wawa, Ontario is currently producing gold the Eagle River Underground Mine. Wesdome started production in December 2022 at the Kiena Complex in Val d’Or, Quebec. The Company trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol “WDO”.

SUMMARY

The over-time eligible position reports to and works under the direction and management of the Site Lead for Environment and will coordinate closely with other teams on and off site including staff and leadership at the Eagle River mine. The Environmental Technician requires an individual who is innovative and motivated to achieve and maintain environmental stewardship on a working mine site. In accordance with Company protocols and policies, this role will monitor environmental conditions in the field and will assist in various fieldwork activities, ensuring compliance with all relevant government regulations, permits and certificates of approval. This role will also have the ability to manage existing and future environmental projects, including innovations and strategies for continuous improvement on environmental stewardship and performance. The role will include strategizing, compliance, and technical reporting writing, visible felt leadership, environmental monitoring and project management.

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES PERFORMED

  • Support for adherence to policies, standards and permit conditions.
  • Innovative strategies to achieve success of mining operations in the context of sustainable environmental stewardship.
  • Support and project manage baseline activities and research activities to obtain and maintain operating permits.
  • Support in developing procedures and priorities through identified risk management.
  • In accordance with Site and Corporate protocols and policies, support the management of day-to-day issues relating to environmental operational and permitting compliance and engage with site personnel, government and community members on matters relating to environmental performance as needed.
  • Provide environmental training to site personnel on environmental stewardship including applicable permit conditions.
  • Actively participate in site, team and personal safety.
  • Contractor management for environmental and reclamation activities on and around the site.
  • Site inspections for environmental compliance and performance.
  • Incident investigations.
  • Record keeping, technical report writing, and document control.
  • Active management of costs and efficiencies.
  • Quality Assurance and control of field collection and data.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong work and safety ethic
  • Experience with environmental management, preferably in a mining context.
  • Post-secondary education with environmental component.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office
  • Proficiency in English, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to achieve deadlines, act decisively, be resilient and resourceful.
  • Self-motivated, team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Current driver’s license

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Position requires regular travel to the Eagle River Mine on a 14 x 14 day rotational basis.
  • Field activities as related to the position.
  • Meals and accommodations are provided while on shift at Eagle River
