PUC Services Inc. operates multiple utilities within and around the City of Sault Ste. Marie, including the supply and delivery of electricity and drinking water, and energy services and the treatment of water and wastewater.

PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a new member to join our Engineering Department. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong communication with an innate desire to learn and grow.

Reporting to Senior Water Distribution Engineer, the Water Engineering Technician will perform a variety of activities related to the design, construction, operations, and maintenance associated with the water distribution system.

As the Engineering Technician (Water), your duties will include:
• Design of Water Distribution Facilities.
• Prepare preliminary layout and detailed drawings from sketches or written data.
• Review the design and perform the inspection of water distribution systems.
• Prepare and evaluate construction tenders and perform layout and minor survey work, inspect, verify, and certify contractor installations and, if necessary, authorize minor changes during construction as needed.
• Analyze final project costs and investigate variances.
• Provide Engineering oversight to commission new watermains including witnessing hydrostatic testing, flushing and disinfection requirements, and collection of bacteriological samples for lab analysis.
• Conduct a variety of activities to maintain accurate and up-to-date records for the daily operations of the various utilities and to ensure accurate archives are maintained for future reference.
• Respond to customer queries or complaints and employ tact and diplomacy to resolve issues.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of a post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology; or equivalent which is a combination of relevant education and related experience normally acquired by working in a civil engineering, municipal or utility workplace for a minimum of 5 years.
• Sound working knowledge of engineering principles related to Water Distribution Systems.
• Proficient at reading and interpreting civil and electrical drawings.
• AutoCAD and GIS skills.
• Proficient in computerized systems, such as Microsoft Office.
• Strong interpretive and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario driver’s license.
