PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide service, training and establish a preventative maintenance program for patient-applied medical devices.

DUTIES:
1. Perform electrical equipment pre-acceptance checks and incoming inspections.
2. Test electro-medical equipment for performance assurance and ensure proper functioning.
3. Provide clinical training of electro-medical equipment to staff, as required.
4. Evaluate the capabilities of electro-medical equipment and provide advice as to whether new equipment should be purchased.
5. Perform preventive maintenance and quality assurance procedures on medical equipment to ensure proper functionality and patient safety.
6. Repair patient applied medical equipment.
7. Manage the life cycle of medical equipment.
8. Function as a professional role model demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
9. Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, policy and legislative requirements and implement improvements/changes as appropriate.
10. Comply with organizational policies, procedures and standards.
11. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduate of a recognized Biomedical Engineering Technology program - Recent graduates are encouraged to apply

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
1. Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
2. Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
3. Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
4. Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
5. Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
6. Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
7. Behaviour consistent with Hospital Mission, Values and Standards of Performance.
8. Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
9. Knowledge of –Relevant CSA and IEC standards.
10. Knowledge of evidence based treatment modalities
11. Knowledge of relevant legislation – Health Canada requirements for medical device licensing.

Note: Successful applicant is to become verified order entry qualified within six months. Because of the changing nature of the work and work to be done, other responsibilities and duties may be assigned and qualifications may be adjusted from time to time.
