Another crash at intersection where traffic lights removed

Two pickup trucks were badly damaged in afternoon collision near Albert and Elgin

Two pickup trucks collided this afternoon near Albert and Elgin streets — one of the downtown intersections where the city covered up the lights as part of a traffic-calming study.

Both trucks sustained heavy damage but it's not clear if anyone was injured.

The intersection has been the site of numerous collisions since the city turned off the traffic signals earlier this year.

The intersection is now a two-way stop. Drivers going either direction on Elgin must stop at newly installed stop signs, while motorists going east on Albert have the right of way.

Emergency crews responded to the crash scene this afternoon.

SooToday will provide more details as they become available.
