An 18-year-old has been charged after a report of a stabbing on Goulais Avenue over the weekend.

Around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, a 911 call reported the incident in the 600 block of Goulais Avenue.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded and ultimately found and arrested the suspect in the 600 block of Second Line West.

A knife was found nearby and seized, police say.

"An investigation revealed the accused had gotten into an altercation with someone known to them and stabbed them in the torso," says a police news release. "The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening physical injuries."

Justice Palen has been charged with one count of aggravated assault.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and subsequently released with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 12.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Palen is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
