COUNTERFEIT ALERT US $20.00
The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is currently investigating a number of U.S. counterfeit twenty-dollar bills surfacing at businesses within the city. The notes are clearly counterfeit upon close examination and the serial numbers have been the same(CI10698075 A) Some of the bills are ripped in the right corner and then taped together. The suspects are targeting small convenience stores and licensed establishments.
The public, including merchants and staff are requested to examine the notes closely for the above details and notify police if they appear suspicious. If you receive a counterfeit note attempt to identify and contact police immediately.
Stealing from Zellers
A 16-year old youth and a 14-year old youth will both appear in bail court this morning after being arrested last night and charged with one count each of robbery. It is alleged that the two males attended at the Zellers Store in the Station Mall and stole some Tylenol. Both youths left the store with the unpaid merchandise. When security attempted to apprehend the youths they both resisted arrest and extra security assistance was required. Both youths were turned over to City Police.
Theft Under $5000 & Possession of Property Obtained in a Crime
34-year old Roddy Ryan Junior of 342-138 East Street was arrested and charged yesterday afternoon with one count of theft under $5,000 and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime. It is alleged that the accused stole two 60-ounce bottles of Canadian Club from the LCBO Store in the Station Mall. The accused was apprehended by security and turned over the City Police. When officers searched the accused they located a government cheque which had the name removed of the person to whom the cheque was issued. They also found a birth certificate belonging to a male who had reported his stolen in June of this year. The accused will appear in court on November 27th.
Charged with Mischief
19-year old Jesse Petingalo of 691A Second Line West was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000. It is alleged that in August of this year the accused damaged a pickup truck on Ontario Avenue by kicking and denting the drivers side and passenger side door. The accused will appear in court on December 4th.
Break & Enter
A residence on Goulais Avenue was reported broken into yesterday afternoon. Items taken included CD’s, a CD player and a bracelet.
Several vehicles were reported being entered in the last 24-hour period. Two vehicles on Upton Road were entered and an Ipod Nano was taken from one of them and change and CD’s were taken from the other. Two vehicles were entered on McGregor Avenue and CD’s, change, wallets and identification were taken from them.
