Breach of Release Order
Yesterday afternoon a 42-year old male was arrested and charged with one count of breach of a release order and one count of obstruct police. The incident occurred on the 15th of October where it is alleged that the accused attended at the residence of his ex-girlfriend while on conditions not to attend at her residence. The accused will appear in court on November 23rd.
Female Charged with Theft
19-year old Melissa Allard of upstairs-660 Lennox Avenue was arrested yesterday afternoon at the Station Mall. It is alleged that the accused attended at the Pantorama Store and attempted to leave the store with a pair of jeans. The accused was apprehended by staff and turned over to police. The accused has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and will appear in court on November 21st.
Youth Caught Stealing In Sears
A 16-year old youth was arrested last night around 7 pm. It is alleged that the youth attended at the Sears Store in the Station Mall and attempted to steal a can opener. The accused was apprehended by security and turned over to City Police. The youth has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and will appear in court on November 22nd.
Break and Enter
Yesterday morning City Police attended at a residence in the 200 block of Goulais Avenue for an attempt break and enter to a home. Nothing was taken.
City Police were kept very bust with a number of motor vehicle collisions yesterday.
1) Around 3:30 pm yesterday a pickup truck operated by 78-year old Robert Anderson of East Mount Hope, Ontario was traveling eastbound on Trunk Road near Dacey Road. A 13-year old bicyclist was attempting to cross Trunk Road at Dacey Road when it is alleged that the bicyclist crossed the road and was struck by the pickup truck. The cyclist was taken to the hospital by family members for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Damage to the bike and vehicle are described as light. The collision is still under investigation.
2) At the same time officers attended at St. Georges Avenue and North Street for another collision. It is alleged that a car operated by 77-year old Peter Pettalia of 266 Pittsburgh Avenue was traveling westbound on St. Georges Avenue and attempted to turn right onto North Street. Mr. Pettalia stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross the road. It is alleged that a van operated by 65-year old Italia Bossio of 25 Maple Street struck the back of the Pettalia vehicle. Both drivers and a passenger in the Pettalia vehicle attended at the Sault Area Hospitals on their own for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Damage to both vehicles was described as light. Mr. Bossio has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of start from stopped position-not in safety.
3) At 4:15 pm officers attended at Bay Street and Elgin Street for another collision. A car operated by 33-year old Jason Roy of 13 Broadview Drive was traveling southbound on Elgin Street on the green light. It is alleged that a van operated by 55-year old Noella Hosken of 502-627 MacDonald Avenue was traveling eastbound on Bay Street and proceed through the red light and struck the Roy vehicle. Mrs. Hosken and 19-year old Jennifer Jones of 13 Broadview Drive, who was a passenger in the Roy vehicle, were both taken to the Sault Area Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The Roy vehicle was severely damaged and the Hosken van was demolished in the collision. Noella Hosken has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of red light-fail to stop.
4) Last night just before 9 pm City Police attended at Albert Street East and Dennis Street for a collision between a car and a pedestrian. A car operated by 53-year old Alvin McCoy was traveling eastbound on Albert Street East and stopped for a red light at Dennis Street. When the light turned green Mr. McCoy his vehicle was struck by 13-year old pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The incident is still under investigation.
In light of the number of collisions yesterday involving injuries, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind all persons on the road to slow down and pay attention. Many of these incidents could have been avoided by paying attention to traffic and obeying road signs.
