21-year old Vinson Porter of 3-26 Albert Street East was arrested last evening in the area of the Station Mall. It is alleged that just after 8:30 pm the accused attended at Savoy’s Jewellers, smashed a glass showcase with a hammer, stole 2 Rolex watches valued at over $16,000 and ran from the store. Several employees from another store in the mall apprehended the male and in the process one of the employees was struck with the hammer. Station Mall Security attended in the area as well and assisted with apprehended the male and turned him over to City Police. Mr. Porter has been charged with one count of robbery. At the time of the offence the accused was on a release order to keep the peace and be good as well as not notify any change of address. The accused was further charged with two counts of breach of a release order and will appear in bail court this morning.

Male Charged with Criminal Harassment

24-year old Michael Muto of 123 Roosevelt Avenue was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of criminal harassment and two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that between the 14th and 15th of November the accused called a female known to him repeatedly over 300 times. At the time of the offence the accused was on two probation orders with conditions to keep the peace and be good. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.

Male Charged with Breach of Probation

Last evening officers on routine patrol had occasion to stop a vehicle on Second Line East and John Street. When officers spoke to the accused it is alleged that they detected an odor of alcohol on the male driver. The accused was on probation with conditions not to consume alcohol and to keep the peace and be good. 27-year old Jason Van-Bakel of 523 Brunswick Street has been charged with two counts of breach of probation and will appear in court on December 19th.

Break and Enters

Yesterday City Police received a call from a homeowner in the 100 block of James Street. Sometime overnight on the 14th and 15th the garage was broken into. It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.

Sometime between November 13th and November 15th a home in the 100 block of Jemmette Street was entered and an answering machine and telephone were taken.

A home in the 100 block of March Street was entered yesterday between 3 pm and 8:30 pm. Items taken include an X-box, a Nintendo system and a stereo.

Motor Vehicle Collision

Just before 5:30 pm last evening City Police attended in the 1500 block of Queen Street East for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A car operated by 18-year old Sara Gallagher of 1969 Queen Street East was traveling westbound on Queen Street East. It is alleged that a car operated by 33-year old Michelle Syrette of 15 Pontiac Street pulled out of a civic address in the 1500 block and turned left, striking the Gallagher vehicle. The Gallagher vehicle then crossed both eastbound lanes of Queen Street East and came to a rest in some bushes that were off the roadway. Michelle Syrette was taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. She has also been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of left turn-fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision. Both vehicles received moderate damage.
