(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The OPP is currently investigating a mischief to a pumping station. Sometime during the evening of May 23rd, 2005 and the morning of May 24th, 2005 unknown person(s) attended the pumping station at the end of Stanrock Road. Locks of a large steel gate were pried open and access to the property was gained. A large utility trailer used in the application of a variety of chemicals was moved from it location and sent down the face of a cliff thus being destroyed. The size of the trailer is one that would have required the use of a vehicle to be moved.

The mischief continued into the pumping station area with is a collector pond for the waste management area. Had this pumping station been knocked out of service it could have caused a potential environmental hazard for the immediate area.

Investigation revealed that there was no evidence of any hazard resulting from the mischief.

Missing Person

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is requesting your assistance in locating a missing woman from the Elliot Lake area.

The 58-year-old Philippine female was last seen on Monday, May 23rd, 2005 at her residence on Axmith Avenue in Elliot Lake. She was seen wearing a dark colored ¾ length coat with light pants. No other description of clothing available.

Linda Schollaert also known as Linda Bustamati is described at being 5’3” tall, 140 pds, short black hair, brown eyes and wears glasses.

Threatening to Cause Death

A 48-year old female will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested late yesterday afternoon in relation to a domestic dispute in the City’s downtown area. It is alleged that around 4 pm yesterday the accused was involved in a verbal argument with her husband when she grabbed a knife and threatened to throw it at the victim. The accused has been charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm.


Breach of Release Orders

A 44-year old male will appear in bail court this morning also in relation to a domestic dispute. It is alleged that he accused called his estranged girlfriend on the 23rd and 24th of May and left her messages. The accused was on release conditions not to communicate with the victim. The male has been charged with 2 counts of breach of release orders.

Male Charged With Possession of Housebreaking Tools

33-year old Craig Witty of 38 Heyden Lake Road, Heyden was arrested just before 1 am this morning in the City’s downtown area. It is alleged that shortly before 1 am the accused used bolt cutters to cut a lock off of a shed in the 900 block of Wellington Street East. The homeowner called the police and the accused was apprehended a short distance away with the bolt cutters still in his possession. The accused has been charged with one count of possession of housebreaking tools and one count of break and enter with the intent to commit an offence. Mr. Witty will appear in court on June 27th.

Theft Charges Laid

Officers from Investigation Services, who had completed their investigation into thefts from Checker Cab and 7500 Taxi, arrested 35-year old Stephen Hilb of 8 Herrick Street last evening. It is alleged that between September of 2004 and January of 2005 the accused failed to remit monies owing to both companies while he was employed by them. The monetary value of the thefts is just over $500. In addition to the thefts the accused also claimed he was robbed in December while working for one of the cab companies. The investigation into the complaints of theft and the robbery resulted in the accused admitting he had not been robbed of the money. Mr. Hilb has been charged with 7 counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of public mischief and will appear in court on June 27th.

Boy Hit By Car

An 11-year old boy was taken by ambulance to the hospital yesterday afternoon just after 4 pm. A car operated by Luke Couturier of 480 Moss Road was traveling westbound on Rossmore Road when it was alleged that the child ran out across Rossmore Road and was struck by Mr. Couturier. The accident remains under investigation at this time.

Pedestrian Struck

The female driver of a red 4-door vehicle is being asked to contact the City Police Traffic Services office. Around 12:30 pm yesterday a 14-year old male was walking his bike southbound across the crosswalk at Wellington Street East and Pine Street. A red car operated by a female driver was on Wellington Street East facing west and proceeded to turn onto Pine Street and struck the pedestrian walking his bike in the crosswalk. The driver did stop and ask the pedestrian if he was alright and then left the area. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital by a family member for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Break and Enter

Yesterday morning a homeowner in the 300 block of Dovercourt woke up to find that thieves had entered their residence via the patio door overnight and had stolen a purse and its contents.

A homeowner in the 500 block of Allens Side Road had a surprise when they returned home at noon yesterday. The homeowner found a male wearing tan shorts and a red hat in their home. The only other description is that the male was tall and had brown hair. The homeowner immediately called the City Police. The suspect was last seen headed towards Chippewa Street.
