Road Closures For Doucet Funeral Mass

The Funeral Mass and Service for Constable Donald Doucet will take place on Thursday May 18th at 11:30 am at the Sault Ste. Marie Armoury.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is expecting a large contingency of law enforcement officers and other emergency service personnel to attend the full police funeral.

The officers and other personnel will be marching from the John Rhodes Community Centre located at 280 Elizabeth Street at approximately 10:30 am to the Armoury. The route the officers will be marching is northbound on Elizabeth Street, westbound on Wellington Street East and then northbound on Pine Street to the Armoury for the Funeral Mass.

After the Funeral Mass, the Funeral Procession will then march back along the same route.

The following road closures will occur:

1) Pine Street will be closed between Wellington Street East and MacDonald Avenue between 9 am until the completion of the Funeral.

2) Wellington Street East will be closed sometime between 10:30 am and 11:30 am for approximately 20 minutes to facilitate the movement of the marching procession between the John Rhodes Community Centre.

3) Wellington Street East will again be closed sometime between 2 pm and 3 pm for approximately 20 minutes to allow for the Hearst and the Funeral Procession to march back to the John Rhodes Community Centre.

4) Elizabeth Street will be closed between McMeeken Street and Wellington Street East between 9 am and 10:30 am.

5) Elizabeth Street will then be closed again between 2 to 3 pm for approximately 20 minutes.

6) Ontario Avenue will be closed between Upton Road and Pine Street between 9 am and 2 pm.

7) Breton Road at Pine Street will be closed between 9 am and 2 pm.

Additional Charges Laid Agains Woman Charged With Assaul In '05

Earlier Release: Oct 27, 2005

A 35-year-old female will appear in bail court this morning. She has been charged with 1 count of Aggravated Assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted hers infant child between August 11th and October 26th. Officers from the Investigation Services were notified and are continuing to work on this investigation. The infant remains in hospital care in serious condition. The name of the accused person is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.


On the 16th of May 2006, after further investigation, officers from The Investigation Services arrested the above-mentioned female with additional charges. The 36-year-old female has been charged with 1 count of Failing to Provide the Necessities of Life and 1 count of Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm. The accused will appear in bail court this morning. The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

Second Charge In Three Days For Youth

A 12-year-old youth has been charged for the second time in three days. In the first incident which, occurred on the 14th of May the youth became out of control at their residence in the west end of the city and police had to be contacted. The youth was on a release document, to not molest, harass or physically interfere with other members of that residence. Police attended and arrested the youth who was subsequently charged with 1 count of Breach of Release Document and was to appear in court on June 20th.

In the second incident which occurred late last evening, City Police were called when this same youth became out of control once again at their residence and threw chairs around the dining room and then proceeded to pour maple syrup over the vehicle parked in the driveway and on the front window of the house. Police attended and arrested the youth. The youth who cannot be named has been charged once again with 1 count of Breach of Release Document. This time the youth will appear in Bail Court.

Pick-Pocket At Canadian Tire

City Police arrested a 16-year-old youth yesterday afternoon at Canadian Tire. It is believed that the youth who cannot be named was observed going into a coat pocket, which did not belong to them and removing a package of cigarettes. This occurred on the 15th of May. The youth then left the store and returned the following day. The youth who was working as a volunteer was arrested by City Police at approximately 1:30 Yesterday afternoon. The youth has been charged with 1 count of Theft Under $5000 and is to appear in court on the 20th of June.
