BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated two break and enters yesterday. At 8:22 am patrol officers were called to The Sault This Week at 2 Towers Street where thieves had entered the building through a front window. Thieves had bent the bars on the window and pushed it open to gain access to the building. Once inside thieves stole a computer hard drive and attempted to damage the security system.
At 3:10 this morning three male thieves attempted to break into Silver Fox Antiques at 134 Bruce Street. An aboriginal male is believed to have thrown an ice block through the front window of the store breaking it. This noise awoke the owner of the business, who was sleeping in the rear area of the building. When the owner checked the front area of the business, he observed the aboriginal male described as approximately 23 years old with a short ponytail trying to enter through the broken window. The actions of the owner surprised the thief and who fled the area running north on Bruce Street, accompanied by two other males who were standing on the street outside the store.
Patrol Officers also investigated a third occurrence, which may have been a break-in attempt to a business on Great Northern Road. Shortly after midnight this morning, police officers were called to 111A Great Northern Road, the office of Household Finance, where thieves had thrown a fire extinguisher through the front window of the business. It appear that entry had not been gained. Investigation by Police revealed the fire extinguisher had been stolen from the Best Western Hotel on Great Northern Road sometime earlier that evening.
