MAN TURNS HIMSELF IN TO POLICE
On the 3rd of March, 2003, a first instance warrant was issued for the accused, Clayton Lapensee, age 38 of 62 Arden St., for failing to attend court. A bench warrant was also issued on that date for outstanding charges of impaired driving, consuming over legal limit, and a previous fail to appear court.

Yesterday at 8:40 am at the Police Services Building, 580 Second Line East, the accused Clayton Lapensee turned himself in to deal with a bench warrant that was issued for fail to appear. The warrant was confirmed by officers and was executed. He will appear in bail court today.


ANOTHER MAN TURNS HIMSELF IN
Yesterday at the Police Services Building, a male identified as Stephen Hill, age 39 of 25 Elmwood Avenue, also presented himself for arrest. The male indicated that he had an outstanding first instance warrant for breach of probation.

A police records check revealed that an outstanding warrant was valid for three counts of breach of probation. Police executed the warrant and Hill is scheduled to appear in court on April 21st.


14-YEAR-OLD CHARGED IN BREAK-IN
Last Sunday, between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, a 14-year-old female broke locking devices to the stairway to the upper level of an east end address.

She broke the locking devices with a hammer. She then entered her parent's bedroom where she stole a glass jar of change with an approximate value of $12.00 and $64.00 worth of cigarettes. These items were removed from the house.

The female admitted to haven taken these items and she had disposed of them. Patrol officers arrested and charged her with Theft under $ 5,000.00 and Failure to Comply with a Disposition. She will appear in court in mid April.


SHOPLIFTER ARRESTED
On February 27, 2002, police officers were called to Zellers Station Mall in regards to a male shoplifter. The accused Charles Coaster, age 20 of no fixed address was arrested for Theft under $5000. Coaster was observed placing a bottle of Listerine valued at $5.98 into his pants and walking out of the store without making an attempt to pay the item.

Coaster subsequently arrested for Theft under $5000.00. Yesterday, police went to the District Jail to execute warrants on Charles Coaster for failing to appear in court.

Coaster was arrested and the warrants were executed. Coaster is in custody at the district jail and will attend bail court on the 12th of March 2003.


STOLEN CREDIT CARD USER ARRESTED
On the 16th of May 2002, a male who was identified as Thomas Mattinas, age 19 of no fixed address, entered the Bata Athletes World store and attempted to purchase merchandise with a credit card that did not belong to him.

This credit card had been reported stolen by the victim earlier on in the day. The clerk did not allow Mr. Mattinas the opportunity to purchase this merchandise. Yesterday, police went to the district jail to execute warrants on accused Thomas Mattinas who is in custody there.

Police executed warrants and charged Mattinas with attempt use of stolen credit card, possession of stolen credit card and two counts of breach of probation. Mattinas remained in custody and will appear in bail court today.


SHOPLIFTER ARRESTED WITH WINE
Yesterday at approximately 5:45 pm, Raymond Gregoire, age 19 of 217 Beverly Street was at the Station Mall, where he allegedly entered a restricted area posted for employees only and proceeded to steal a 1.5 litre bottle of white wine.

Gregoire was located a short distance away and was found to be in possession of the bottle of wine. A security officer placed Gregoire under arrest.

Gregoire then resisted security by pulling away and not complying with their demands in an effort to escape. A police officer arrived and Gregoire resisted him by not placing his hands behind his back and pulling them away in an attempt not to be handcuffed.

At 6:00 pm police charged Gregoire with theft under, possession property obtained by crime and resisting arrest. He will appear in bail court today.


UNUSUAL BREAK & ENTER
Yesterday, shortly after 5:00 pm, a 70-year-old male was preparing supper in the kitchen of his home on Wellington Street West, when he heard a sound in his basement.

The victim went to investigate the sound, when he observed a young male in his basement. The male had opened a basement window and entered the residence Once inside, the youth was supposed to open the main door to allow other youths into the residence.

The victim confronted the youth who was hiding behind the staircase. The youth was convinced to come out of hiding and spoke to the homeowner. The victim came upstairs and then fled the home.

The homeowner then checked the residence to find two screens had been damaged at the rear. Patrol officers located the young male on the roadway outside the residence and arrested him.

The 13-year-old youth from Goulais Avenue has been charged with Break and Enter, Mischief and Failing to Comply with a Disposition. He will appear in court in mid April.


SHOPLIFTING AT ROME?S
Yesterday, the accused, a 16-year-old male was inside Rome's Independent Grocer and had an occasion to be observed by security as he concealed 2 packages of Deli Meats totaling $11.10.

The accused left through the main entrance without making any attempt to purchase the merchandise. He was apprehended outside the store and returned to the security office where police were called.

Police officers arrested and charged the youth with Theft under $5000.00. He will appear in court in mid April.


BREAK & ENTERS
The police service investigated three break and enters yesterday. Thieves broke into the rink shack at Mike Zuke Park in Bayview.

At approximately 8:00 pm, thieves broke into an apartment in the 300 block of Wellington Street East. They entered the apartment via a broken window and went through the apartment. Various items were taken.

These two break-ins are currently under investigation and anyone with information on them is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers. (And the third break in was to a residence on Wellington St. West where the 70-year-old male found the 13-year-old youth in his basement.)


TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
Yesterday police investigated 11 motor vehicle collisions. Most were of a minor nature. With the winter season refusing to leave us, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service wishes to remind motorists to observe the winter driving conditions.
