Street Team Arrest Male for Drug and Weapon Related Offences Yesterday morning at approximately 10:30 am, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team conducted a drug investigation traffic stop on Central Street.
Street Team Arrest Male for Drug and Weapon Related Offences

Yesterday morning at approximately 10:30 am, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team conducted a drug investigation traffic stop on Central Street. At that time, the male operator of the vehicle was found consuming a cannabis marihuana cigarette-joint. The male refused to exit his vehicle after being advised he was under arrest, and began concealing evidence in his clothing. Officers had to break the window of the male’s vehicle in order to remove him from the vehicle. In addition, once out of the vehicle, the male resisted arrest by refusing to put his hands behind his back while struggling to pull his hands away from officers’ control, and refusing to comply with officers’ instructions. During the course of the search officers located a small amount of cocaine, a debt list and $1965.00 (offence related property). In addition, officers located small amounts of crack cocaine, cannabis marihuana and Ritalin methylphenidate) and a knife that opened with centrifugal force, making it a prohibited weapon. At the time of the offences, the male was bound by the conditions of a weapon prohibition order to abstain from the possession of a prohibited weapon. In addition, he was bound by the condition of a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and an undertaking to abstain from the possession or consumption of non-prescription drugs. As a result, 19 year-old Derrick Derasp of #2-603 Queen Street East was arrested and charged with one count of possession for the purposes of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, three counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, one count of possession of a prohibited weapon, one count of possession of a prohibited weapon in contravention of a court order, four counts of breach of a release document, one count of breach of probation and two counts of obstruct peace officer and one count of resist arrest.

Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

33 year-old Trevor Diboll of 130 Albert Street West was arrested on an outstanding warrant on the 1st of June at 3:25 pm on Albert Street West and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that the accused was wanted for a theft incident back on the 12th of February when he stole a handful of Nevada tickets from a local tavern. He is to appear in court on the 28th of June.

Shoplifting Arrest

56 year-old Denis Theriault of no fixed address was arrested on the 1st of June at 3:25 pm at Sears in the Station Mall after he allegedly attended at the store yesterday and stole some clothing. He is to appear in court on the 5th of July.

Pisa Pizza Robbery under Investigation

City police responded to an armed robbery last evening at the Pisa Pizza located on Second Line West. At approximately 12:23 am, a lone male wearing a balaclava entered the business with a shotgun and demanded cash form the register. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash form the till. Officers searched the area with negative results. The male was described as being approximately 27-37 years of age, around 6’- 6’2”, 200 pounds, wearing dark clothing and a balaclava. The investigation is continuing.

Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Three Vehciles

City police responded to a three vehicle collision on Queen Street East yesterday morning at approximately 8:38 am. All three vehicles, a 2009 Honda, a 2003 Jeep and a 2008 Chrysler were travelling west bound in the 700 block of Queen Street East. It is alleged that the Jeep and Chrysler came to a stop behind traffic and the driver of the Honda failed to stop in time and struck the Jeep from behind, resulting in it striking the Chrysler. The driver of the Jeep was transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda, 39 year-old Allyson Niro of 73 Louise Avenue was charged with one count of follow too closely under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Thefts


• Vehicles were entered in the West end and on Champagne Drive. Some of the items reported stolen included a cell phone and jewellery.
• Bikes were reported stolen on Dennis Street, Crawford Avenue and the 300 block of Queen Street East.
• Two fridges, a stove, a wheel barrow and a shelving unit were reported stolen from under a tarp in a yard of a residence in the 100 block of Birch Street.

Mischief Report

A residence door was reported kicked in and damaged on Coulson Avenue.
