The Sault Ste. Marie Police were assisted by the United States Coast Guard this morning when they recovered a drifting 12 foot aluminum boat believed to belong to someone from the Canadian Side of the St. Mary’s River.

Marie Police were assisted by the United States Coast Guard this morning when they recovered a drifting 12 foot aluminum boat believed to belong to someone from the Canadian Side of the St. Mary’s River.  The boat was found drifting in the Pointe des Chenes area.  The boat was turned over to Police on the Canadian side of the river and on further inspection identification was found in the boat.  It has been returned to its owner.

A resident on Ferris Avenue reported that overnight someone entered their vehicle and stole a wallet and some other items.

A male reported that while he was packing his belongings in his vehicle in front of the Sleep Inn on Bay Street he momentarily put his laptop computer down.  When he went to retrieve the computer it was gone.  He saw no suspects in the area.

A male who was staying at the Howard Johnsons Hotel on Trunk Road reported that sometime overnight his vehicle was entered and a bag of fishing gear and a video camera were stolen.

A walker was reported stolen in the down town area.   A very thin white male with black hair and a scar on his knee and a very thing white female with long black hair were seen near the walker shortly it disappeared.  The walker is valued at $400.

A silver and black mountain bike was reported stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Belleview Ave.

A 19 year old male was arrested for theft under $5000, fraud under $5000 uttering a forged document and one count of false pretenses.   It is alleged that the accused stole property and cheques from a family member.  He pawned the property and made the cheques out to himself to himself and cashed them.  His name is not being released to avoid identifying the victim.  He will be appearing in court on August 12th.

Three Persons from Southern Ontario Arrested & Will Appear in Bail Court

On the 3rd of July 2013 around 1:30 am City Police attended at Canada Customs regarding a motor vehicle that had been refused entry into the United States. 

40 year old Jonathan Bailey of 101 Gertrude Street, Hamilton, Ontario was in the vehicle.  He was on probation with conditions not to leave the Province of Ontario, not to associate with anyone with a criminal record and to keep the peace and be of good behavior. 

48 year old Bert Johnson of 101 Gertrude Street, Hamilton, Ontario was also in the vehicle. He was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behavior.

The vehicle, driven by 20 year old Natasha Ritchie also of 101 Gertrude Street, had a stolen licence plate on it.

Customs officers located three saddles, horse equipment and tools in the vehicle. 

The three persons were brought to the police station.  Further investigation was commenced by Patrol Officers, who were later assisted by officers from Investigation Services.  

The officers were able to determine that the items located in vehicle were stolen from Hamilton, Ontario.

Jonathon Bailey has been charged with three counts of breach of probation and one count of possession of stolen property.

Bert Johnson has been charged with one count of breach of probation and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

Natasha Ritchie has been charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

All three persons will appear in bail court on July 4th.

Arrests/Charged Persons: 

On July 2, 2013 at approximately 9:50pm the accused, age 27 was arrested on outstanding warrants for breaching court ordered conditions and failing to attend court.  The accused was found at a residence she was not suppose to be at and further was found to be in an intoxicated state, again breaching court ordered conditions. The accused will appear in bail court on July 2, 2013 at 9:00am.
