Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrants

59-year old Louis Gagnon of no fixed address will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested on outstanding arrest warrants. Yesterday afternoon patrol officers arrested the accused on the warrants, which were for one count of fail to appear in court and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. The alleged incidents occurred in July of 2001 and May of 2002.

Male to Appear In Bail Court

22-year old Michael Mearow of 41 Edinburgh apartment 8 will also appear in bail court. Around 11:30 pm last night officers stopped a vehicle for a routine traffic stop in which the accused was in. A query of Mr. Mearow revealed he was on a release document with a curfew of 11 pm to 6 am. The accused was arrested for one count of breach of a release document.

Youth Charged with Theft

A 15-year-old youth was arrested last evening after patrol officers completed their investigation of a theft of Canadian Tire money from a residence on January 3rd. At the time of the alleged theft the youth was also on a probation order with terms to keep the peace and be good. The youth has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation. The youth will appear in court on February 8th.

Male Charged with Theft Under $5,000

20-year old Justin Beckett of 85 Jean Street was arrested by officers last evening and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused stole a Panasonic digital camcorder valued at $1300 from Muntz Stereo on Trunk Road on December 31st. Mr. Beckett will appear in court on February 14th.

Female Charged with Fraud

31-year old Tracy Bent of 4-107 Breton Road was arrested
yesterday after she attempted to defraud Zellers at the Station Mall. It is alleged that yesterday the accused attended at the store and returned 2 items in boxes for a credit in the store. When store employees checked the boxes they found rocks in the boxes after the accused left the sales area. The accused was then observed hiding various pieces of electronics and other merchandise in a bag she had on her. When she attempted to leave the store with the unpaid merchandise in the bag she was arrested by store security and turned over to City Police. The accused has been charged with one count of fraud and one count of theft under $5,000. She will appear in court on February 14th.

Male Youth Charged with Mischief

A 17-year old youth was arrested last evening in the Station Mall after it was alleged the youth punched and broke a display sign in the Mall. The youth was on probation at the time with terms to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The youth has been charged with one count of mischief and one count of breach of probation. The youth will appear in court on February 8th.

Ride Program

From November 19th to December 31st the Sault Ste Marie Police Service R.I.D.E. Program stopped 5327 vehicles, issued 126 roadside screening tests, issued 36-12 hour suspensions, gave 11 persons 90 day suspensions, arrested 11 persons with impaired related offences and charged one person with fail to provide breath sample. Two of the dates were done jointly with the OPP R.I.D.E. Unit. The Sault Ste Marie Police Services advise that just because the holiday season is over, the Festive Season R.I.D.E. Program is not. The Sault Ste Marie Police Service will be conducting several more R.I.D.E program dates this month before it official ends. As always the public is reminded to not drink and drive.
