MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
Yesterday, the accused, a 19-year-old male and his common law 17-year-old victim became involved in a verbal argument at their residence off Hudson St.
The argument turned physical with the accused punching the victim in the head, arm and back area, choking her, squeezing her fingers and attempting to kick her while she was on the ground.
The accused, after repeatedly being told to leave, did so. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was contacted and at 9:35 am yesterday morning Patrol Officers located the accused at Queen and Gore Streets where he was subsequently arrested and charged with Assault. He will appear in court April 7th.
ARRESTED FOR USING STOLEN CREDIT CARD
On February 24, 2003 a Mastercard credit card was taken from the office of one of the employees at a local hotel. On February 25, 2003 the credit card data was used to order a basket and $300.00 cash from a local merchant.
The basket was delivered to a Wellington Street East address, where the accused accepted it. At 12:39 pm, patrol officers went to the Wellington Street East address and arrested and charged the accused, Shawn Dauphin, age 19 of 123 Alexandra Street, with Possession of Data from Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, Possession of Stolen Property and Breach of Probation. He will appear in court on April 7th.
SHOPLIFTERS CAUGHT AT SEARS
At approximately 7:10 pm yesterday, the accused, a 15-year-old female entered the lingerie department of Sears.
The 15-year-old accused, along with her co-accused, a 16-year-old female selected items off racks and entered change rooms. The two exited the change rooms and when security officer checked the rooms for the merchandise, none was found. Only the tags could be located.
When the two accused left the store without paying for the items they were arrested for theft and brought back to security office. Police officers were notified and the pair was charged with Theft under $5,000.00. The total value of goods taken by both was $216.94. The youths will appear in court in early April.
POLICE CALLED TO DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE
Yesterday, police officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Patrol Services Section were called to a residence on Breton Road in response to a domestic disturbance complaint.
The complainant a 42-year-old female indicated to police that the accused, a 42-year-old male had threatened her with death and that she was afraid.
The incident occurred when the male returned home intoxicated and a verbal argument ensued. At 9:53 pm patrol officers arrested and charged the male with Uttering a Death Threat. He will appear in bail court today.
BREAK & ENTERS
Last evening at 8:30 pm, 3 young males were observed trying to break into Steelton Shoes on Wellington Street West. Patrol officers attended the scene but could not locate the individuals involved. Witnesses to the incident provided the officers with several names of potential suspects. This investigation is continuing.
At 4:18 am, the police service was advised that thieves were attempting to break into Queen Street West Variety. Patrol officers found that the thieves had broken the window in the front door and then fled.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
Yesterday, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated 11 motor vehicle collisions. Most of these collisions were of a minor nature. At 4:19 pm Patrol Officers attended at Second Line West and Farwell Terrace for a four-car chain reaction collision.
The investigation revealed that a 2001 Pontiac Sedan being driven by Alisa Roy, age 38 of Creekside Lane had stopped facing eastbound on Second Line at Farwell Terrace for a red traffic control signal.
A 1997 Chevrolet pick-up truck being driven by Felix Charrette, age 24 of West Braemer Bay had stopped behind her.
A 1999 Ford pick-up truck being driven eastbound on Second Line by William Jurich, age 49 of Northridge Road, struck the rear of the Charrette truck forcing it forward into the rear of the Roy car.
A fourth vehicle, a 2002 Ford motor vehicle, being driven east bound on Second Line by Gregory McMaster, age 33 of Birchland Court could not stop behind the Jurich truck and rear ended it.
Several of the individuals involved in the collision complained of minor injuries that did not require immediate medical attention. All of the vehicles involved in this collision received light damage. Jurich has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Following Too Closely.
