News release from December 7th: Yesterday officers arrested a female for an assault that took place on the 4th of December at 2 am in the downtown area.


News release from December 7th:

Yesterday officers arrested a female for an assault that took place on the 4th of December at 2 am in the downtown area. It is alleged that the accused assaulted a female by punching her in the face and upper body causing non-life threatening injuries. Toni Binda, age 21, of 52 Smale Avenue is to appear in court on the 10th of January 2005 after being charged with one count of assault.

Update to above release:

Last evening officers arrested a second female in relation to the above assault. In addition to assaulting the victim this accused jumped on the hood of the victim’s car and caused damage to it. 19-year old Alisha Marini of 405-100 James Street has been charged with one count of assault and one count of mischief. She will appear in court on January 17th.

Outstanding Arrest Warrant

Yesterday after City Police arrested 27-year old Josh Sackville of 2-42 Grace Street on an outstanding arrest warrant for fail to appear in court. He has been charged with one count of fail to appear in court and has a court date of January 17th.

Imparied Charges Laid

Shortly after 3 am this morning 23-year old Derek Nott of G5-614 MacDonald Avenue caught the attention of uniform officers after he sped out of a local business of Great Northern Road. Officers stopped the car Mr. Nott was driving and found that he was under the influence of alcohol. The accused has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of impaired driving. He will appear in court on January 17th.

Motor Vechile Collision

Yesterday afternoon City Police took a report of an accident with injuries on Wellington Street West near Hudson Street shortly after 2:30 pm. A delivery truck being operated by 49-year old Howard Maville of 53 Cameron Ave and a car being operated by 56-year old Raffaelina Iannelli of 405 River Road were both traveling westbound on Wellington Street West. 2 youths ran out in front of Mrs. Iannelli, who managed to stop safely. Mr. Maville’s vehicle struck the back of the Iannelli car. No charged are being laid in the investigation as road conditions played a role. Mrs. Iannelli took herself to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Friday marks the last day of school for kids in our community. The Sault Ste Marie City Police would like to remind motorists to be extra careful when they are traveling in areas where kids are. Due to snowfall, drivers will not be able to stop safely and quickly like they could on dry road conditions. Slow down, stay alert and lets keep our kids accident free this Holiday Season.

Break and Enter

City Police received a report of a break and enter into a garage in the 300 block of Moss Road yesterday. The break and enter occurred during the night time hours and the homeowner advised fishing rods and a portable generator were taken.
