Vehicle Pedestrian Collision On the 25 th of August officers with the Traffic Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were called the area of Second Line West and Peoples Road for a motor vehicle collision that involved a pedestrian.

On the 25th of August officers with the Traffic Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were called the area of Second Line West and Peoples Road for a motor vehicle collision that involved a pedestrian.  Through investigation officers have found that 21 year old Jordan Paim was crossing Northbound on Second Line West of Peoples Road on foot through live lanes of traffic.  The male failed to use the provided crosswalk that was about 60 feet away from the area of the collision.  The male was nearly struck by several eastbound vehicles and was ultimately struck by a westbound Honda Accord.  The vehicle suffered major damage and Mr. Paim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Sault Area Hospitals by ambulance.  Jordan Paim of 321 Wellington Street West unit 3 has been charged with Pedestrian fail to use crosswalk where a crosswalk is provided contrary to section 144(22) of the Highway Traffic Act.  The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind the public that pedestrians have a duty to use the crosswalk where it is provided and to cross traffic only when it is safe to do so.

Firearms Reported Stolen in Break and Enter

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance to help solve a Break and Enter in the city’s West End.   On the 19th of August a Break and Enter was reported to a residence in the 1100 Block of Town Line.  Unknown suspects entered the residence sometime between the 18th of July and the 18th of August through the front door.  A large amount of jewellery was reported stolen as well as three firearms.  The firearms are described as; a 20 Gauge Mossberg shotgun, a 410 Cooey Shotgun and a 12 Gauge Pump action Ithaca Shotgun.  Any member of the public with information about this Break and Enter or the whereabouts of the stolen firearms is encouraged to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service or Crimestoppers.

Dumpster Fire at the Courthouse

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1:20 pm officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a dumpster fire in the rear East parking lot of the courthouse.   Video surveillance in this area shows a lone person wearing a dark long sleeved shirt and a dark baseball hat ride up to the dumpster on a bicycle.  This person opens the lid of the dumpster and is then seen riding away on the bicycle.  A few minutes later smoke began billowing out of the dumpster.  Police and Fire Services responded and the fire was put out without further incident.  Damage was considered minimal as the fire was contained to the interior of the dumpster.  Any member of the public that has information about this suspect is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sault Ste. Arrests:

A 20 year old male was arrested in relation to a domestic incident.  It is alleged that the male punched his girlfriend in the face three times.  He will be appearing in bail court this morning.

18 year old Dylan Taylor of 29 Clearview Drive was arrested for one count of theft under $5000.  It is alleged that on August 28th Mr. Taylor stole a pair of Sunglasses from Sears in the Station Mall valued at $26. He is to appear in court on September 24th.

Property Crimes:

A residence was reported broken into in the 500 block of John Street.  Approximately $5000 worth of jewelry was stolen.

A business was reported broken into in the 200 block of John Street.  A small amount of cash and some food was stolen.
