The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is reminding the public not to accept rides from people they do not know. Officers from the Investigation Services Section are working on a complaint from a female that occurred in the west end of the City during the mid morning hours of April 17th. On Sunday the complainant was offered a ride from a male possibly known to her. Once inside the vehicle the female realized she was mistaken in her belief as to the identity of the driver. After the driver made concerning comments of a sexual nature the complainant was able to exit the vehicle without incident. The complainant did not receive any injuries. The driver is described as a white male, around 50 years of age with a stocky build and wearing a ball cap. He was driving an older model red pickup truck. Reminder

City Police would like to remind the public that the 2005 Spring Belt Campaign is ongoing until April 24th. On Monday City Police issued 17 tickets to motorists for not wearing their seat belts in addition to 8 tickets for other Highway Traffic Infractions. Yesterday the City Police and the O.P.P. teamed up together and issued 23 tickets to persons not wearing their seat belts. Remember buckling up is the law. A ticket for not wearing your seat belt carries a fine of $110 and your driver’s licence will be reduced by 2 demerit points.

Male Threatens Death to Ex-girlfriend

Yesterday morning a 25-year old male was arrested and charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that on the 12th of April the accused threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.


Male Charged with Criminal Harassment

A 43-year old male was arrested yesterday afternoon at an east end address after he got into an argument with his ex-wife. The victim disclosed to officers that since November of last year it is alleged that the accused has repeatedly called the victim, attended at her residence and place of employment repeatedly, causing the victim concerns for her safety. The accused has been charged with 3 counts of criminal harassment and will appear in bail court this morning.


Couple Charged with Assault

A 42-year old male and a 44-year female got into an argument last evening at their east end residence. It is alleged that both the male and female slapped each other in the face. Both persons were arrested and charged with one count each of assault. The male will appear in bail court and the female will appear in court on June 1st.


Assault With A Weapon

Just after 1 am this morning City Police attended at an east end address and arrested a 21-year old male. It is alleged that the male assaulted his ex-girlfriend by swinging a serrated knife at the victim. The victim received injuries to one of her hands, but did not require medical treatment. The male has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and will appear in bail court this morning.

Youth Charged with Possession

Yesterday morning a 15-year old youth was arrested at a local high school after they were found to have narcotics on them. It is alleged that the accused had 23 grams of marihuana in their possession packaged in a way that would appear to make it available in quantities for sale. The drugs have a street value of approximately $345. The accused has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance. The youth was released and will appear in court on the 24th of May.

Break and Enter

Yesterday during the daytime hours a home in the 100 block of Albert Street East was entered and it unknown at this time what was taken.

Homeowners in the 200 block of Landslide Road had surprise visitors last evening. Just after 10 pm the homeowners were sitting in their back yard when 2 males pulled up to their house in a small charcoal colored car and entered the open garage. The would be thieves were chased off by the homeowners. One suspect was dressed all in bright colored clothing, possibly orange and the second male was dressed all in black. Both males had hoods pulled up over their heads. In addition to the small charcoal car a silver van was observed driving by several times after the incident. In light of yesterday’s warm weather and the anticipation of more to come, homeowners are reminded to keep your doors shut and locked when you are outside in the yard. While you could be enjoying your back yard a thief could easily be in your home without your knowledge. Don’t make it easy for a thief. Secure your property.
