CHARGES UPGRADED TO ATTEMPTED MURDER
Update From April 1st News Release: "This morning at shortly after 4:00 am Patrol Officers were called to a Hill St. address for a domestic dispute, where a 21-year-old male had broken into his 20-year-old ex-girlfriends residence and assaulted her with a kitchen knife.

The accused threatened to kill her and a 24-year-old male that was also present at the residence. The accused swung the knife at the victim, which caused a small cut to the female victims arm.

The police investigation revealed the male had broken into the residence by forcing open the door. Police Officers arrested and charged the accused with Threatening, Assault with a Weapon and Break and Enter. The investigation into this domestic incident is continuing. The accused will appear in bail court today."

Detectives continued the investigation, completing interviews of the parties involved. Based on their investigation, detectives have upgraded the charges from this incident and the accused is now charged with two counts of Attempt Murder, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous, Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Break and Enter to a Dwelling House.

Detectives also learned that from February 1 to the February 28, the victim and the accused lived together at the Hill Street residence. During this time the accused pushed the victim to the floor.

The accused then threw the TV remote control at the victim hitting her in the thigh leaving a bruise. On March 15, the victim was in her bedroom, when the accused came in and had a verbal argument with her.

He then grabbed her and pushed her against the wall, banging her head. The victim fell to the ground from the assault. As a result of these incidents, the accused has been charged with two counts of Assault and Assault with a Weapon. The accused will appear in bail court today at 1:30 pm.


CAUSING A DISTURBANCE
Yesterday at approximately 11:45 a.m. the accused, Bradley Holmes, age 47 of no fixed address, was at a business on McNabb Street causing a disturbance. Patrol officers attended there and found him to be very intoxicated.

A police record check revealed that Holmes was wanted on arrest warrants for failing to attend at court and for fingerprinting. He was arrested on these warrants.

At 12:08 pm he was brought to the Police Services Building where he was also charged with being intoxicated in a public place under the Liquor Licence. He will appear in bail court today.


MAN ASSAULTS WOMAN
In the early morning of March 31, the accused Alfred Wynne, age 37 of 84 Glasgow Avenue, entered the residence of a 28-year-old female he knew. The accused pushed the female down on the bed and held her down with his body weight by her arms.

The victim was able to push the accused off of her and after a short argument Wynne fled the residence. Police Officers located the accused yesterday at 1:10 pm and arrested and charged him with Assault and Unlawfully in a Dwelling House. He will appear in court on May 5th.


MAN ASSAULTS WIFE
On March 31 shortly before noon, the accused, a 22-year-old male from Willow Avenue allegedly assaulted his 22-year-old wife by pushing her against a house as she was trying to leave the residence in the west end of the city. Patrol officers arrested and charged the male at 1:26 pm on April 1st with Assault. He will appear in court on May 5th.


CHARGED WITH RESISTING ARREST
Yesterday at approximately 2:00 pm, the accused Ivan McCreight, age 43 of 293 Wellington Street West, #3, assaulted a 46-year-old female by shoving her on the chest with both hands, knocking her backwards.

Patrol officers arrived at the residence in the city's west end and advised the accused he was under arrest for assault. The accused then grabbed onto a handrail with both hands and refused to let go.

Officers verbally tried to convince the accused to let go of the hand rail and place his hands behind his back. After repeated verbal attempts failed to convince the accused, physical force was used to handcuff him.

Patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Assault, Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer and Breaching his Undertaking. Officers learned that the accused was on an undertaking to reside at 23 Cathcart Street #2. Upon arrest, accused gave address of 293 Wellington Street West, #3. He will appear in court on May 5th.


DRUG BUST
Yesterday, police officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a Controlled Drug Substance Act search warrant upon the residence of a 16-year-old male in the 500 block of Second Line West, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

Police located five cannabis marihuana plants being grown in the bedroom in the basement of the home, inside a box lined with foil and lit with lights. The youth was arrested and charged with Production and Possession of a Controlled Drug.

Police also located a cannabis resin spliff that the accused had produced upon arrest. The potential street value of the illicit drug seized is estimated at $5,005.00. The youth will appear in court on May 6th.


BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received two calls for break and enters yesterday.

Yesterday at 6:08 am police were advised of a break and enter to McLeod Brothers Mechanical on White Oak Drive.

At 7:43 am officers went to Algoma Office Equipment at 708 John Street where thieves forced a window open and entered the building.

Both break ins are currently under investigation and anyone with information on these occurrences is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers.


TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
Police investigated 11 motor vehicle collisions yesterday. Most were of a minor nature and were attributed to the inclement weather.

The Police Service wishes to remind motorists that although we hope winter maybe ending, snow and freezing rain is still a strong possibility in the coming weeks.

Motorists must adjust their driving habits accordingly. Remember to slow down and increase braking distances when roads are wet, icy or snow covered. Extra care by everyone will bring a safer spring!
