Webbwood man accused of murder, arson

WEBBWOOD - On Apr. 3, 2017, shortly after 8:30 a.m. members of the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Sables-Spanish Rivers Fire Department responded to a house fire in Webbwood, Ontario.

The fire was extinguished and a person was found deceased within the residence.

The Espanola OPP and the North East Region Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Peter Donnelly of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and with the assistance of the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) are conducting an investigation into this suspicious fire.

As a result of their investigation, a 30-year-old male from Webbwood has been charged with the following offences:

  • Murder, section 231 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
  • Arson/ damage to property, section 434 of the CC
  • Indignity to a dead body, section 182 (b) of the CC.

The accused appeared in Sudbury at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 4, 2017. Please be advised that a court imposed publication ban is now in place.
